Carriboo Jack

We went to a presentation tonight on Carribou Jack.  He was a flamboyant liar who was killed by a grizzly bear in 1881.  His main claim to fame was his ability as a world class bull sh*tter.  His steady stream of BS helped him hang out with other people who were actually successful.  That's how Carribou Jack somehow got credited with "discovering" gold on the flanks of Bonneville's highest peak.  At the time is was called Mt. Pisgah but they changed it to Carriboo Mountain after Jack met his destiny with the bear.  USGS map makers decided in 1921 that the hicks out this way couldn't spell Caribou right so they changed the spelling to the standard Caribou.  There's no Caribou within a few thousand miles of here.  Anyway, Jack's Legacy of BS is enshrined in three important place names: the mountain, Caribou County and the Caribou National Forest.  Here's a classic Carriboo Jack quote, "I was born in a blizzard snowdrift in the worst storm ever to hit Canada. I was bathed in a gold pan, suckled by a caribou, wrapped in a buffalo rug, and could whip any grizzly going before I was thirteen. That’s when I left home".

We also got to see a real nice presentation of Gray's Lake.  It was a nice way to spend an evening.  Afterwards, we went to Smith's and bought some low carb chocolate ice cream.  Yes, there is such a thing.  Only 5 net grams per serving!  Yummy!

Susun worked like crazy today out in the yard.  Today's work frenzy follows a similar frenzy yesterday. You wouldn't believe the amount of work she's done outside.  I keep telling her "it's unbelievable," and she always replies, "Well, you better believe it."  I am really, truly, honestly AWED by the amount of work she's done in the yard.  We fertilized the lawn and started watering it today.  We can't count on whatever precip gifts the storm is supposed to bring.  The soil is really parched.  For my small part, I took five gallons of used oil to Checker.  I've been letting it accumulate for a couple of years.  Shame on me for such shameless procrastination!

Meanwhile, we printed out all the stuff for the NVUM process and have begun memorizing our lines.  That's always fun.  Susun's enjoying her fave show tonight--Dancing With The Stars.  Between DWTS and American Idol, she is a Happy Camper.

Not a whole heck of a lot more to report.  Cheers!  jp
