A week later

We just came up for air from covering the Halstead Fire and taking our annual trip to Jenny Lake.  I had to do a double take when I checked the date of the last post here.  Here I sit a week later.  The last post was August 31st and now it's September 7th.  YIKES!

Well, the statistical tracking stuff tells the tale.  No one is reading this blog any more, not even the stalwarts of yesteryear.  Meanwhile, the Salmon Thang is too hot to touch and the hundreds upon hundreds of page views pile up like fall leaves in a stiff wind.

Today marked a turning point in the Halstead Fire.  It might well be that the fire's drama reached a high point a few days ago and is now in remission.  Today has been one good news item after another.  As far as we're concerned, we are basically wiped out.  In two days, it will have been a month since we wrote the first article and in two day the article will have received 6,000 page views in one month.  That's a statistic that remains difficult even for us to get a grip on.

The website itself will peak well over 17,000 by September 9th.

Luckily, as far as we are concerned, we think we reached the peak crescendo just as we took off for Jenny Lake.  We think it's all over from here on out and we can get back to normal, whatever that is.  We sure hope we are right--we would LOVE to get back to normal!  Normal seems like a really good place to be.

The past month honestly feels like having been in some kind of a rodeo.  I feel mentally a little like Luke Perry in the 1994 movie "8 Seconds." All I can say is that it's been one heck of a really Wild Ride!  Gotta "Cowboy UP!"

Shortly, we will begin posting real normal stuff and we won't be talking about the fire any more.

Thank You for your incredible patience with us while we went off and joined the circus.  We're back now.  We're OK.  Promise.

Many Cheers, jp

PS--Oh, heck, we might as well as a couple of our fave fire fotos.

you've done an amazing job aggregating all that info into one place and making it sensible for everyone..you deserve some kind of webby award or something. Very, very well done!
